The Infant and Toddler Development
course very often includes observations of children from birth through age
three. As students prepare for these
observations they are required to research developmental milestones. Below are resources provided to students as
they prepare for the observation assignments.
Young children develop in certain
predictable ways, often referred to as developmental milestones. Milestones can be identified in the cognitive,
language, social, emotional, and physical domains of development. As you prepare for this observation, please first
review the Infant/Toddler
Learning & Development Foundations for the domains that you will be
observing. Then select at least one of
the following sources to investigate developmental milestones that you might
see during your observation:
Note: The above sites are useful because they include both written information and videos, to appeal to students with varied learning styles. Also, some students in this course have had little prior interaction with infants and toddlers, so it is helpful for these students to review videos prior to observing. We trust that the above sites will continue to be resources for our students in their work with young children.
