All of that love and money and everything else provides a nice little nest for a low stakes love story. There is no parental drama, no misunderstandings, none of that. It is just two people fighting their way towards finding each other. And two other people who are perfectly nice but just not quite right.
This is what I meant about the youthful 90s. In an early movie, they would have been those dressed up people at the jewelry store! Dramatic lovers with elaborate costumes and all that. But this is the 90s. Instead, they are the casual folks in the jeans and t-shirts laughing their way through life and love.
Oh if you realling liked this romance, then you should watch Aniyathipravvu with the same lead pair. That is the film which set the trend for films like nirams and many others with the same lead pair to follow.
Oh my yes, I remember him coming to my college.The girls went crazy over him.They made extra arrangements for his safety since a previous guest left the venue in rags.And in tears.Or so I heard from my seniors ?
I love Kunjako during his debut days! Shalini and Kunjako were a treat to watch in films like Niram, Aniyathipravu and Prempoojari. Niram is a movie that I hold close to my heart. I study in the same college that this film was shot at. This is truly one of the best romantic movies in Malayalam cinema!
Jomol won the state award for best actress and a special jury mention in national awards for her debut film itself. (Ennu swantham janakikutty a classic movie from hariharan-MT team).
Mayilpeelikkavu was an interesting reincarnation drama and has both kunjakko and jomol. And she had an important role in punjabi house,the most popular comedy in malayalam.
I love all the songs in the film.Vidyasagar is probably the most underrated music director in india. He gave us some of the most beautiful melodies ever.
This film is from the same director of celluloid and the same writer of arabikatha. Both very different films.
Kunjakko boban was a teenage idol during that period. He is not the biggest star now but everyone love him. I think kunjakko and fahad fazil are the only stars now in kerala without any haters . Kasthooriman is my favourite kunjakko film but its not a light hearted film like this one.
Kunchacko was just a delight when I saw him live. He was the only star there willing to goof around with the presenter, and volunteering to go on stage and dance. And he also kind of helped out the other stars, showed them where to sit and stand and so on. Just, nice! From the little I could see sitting way way in the back.
You rightly point out the need for actors to be convincing even in what seems like the lightest of movies. More often than not bad casting can ruin great (or fluffy) movies. These two were movie magic. They are still counted among the best pairs to appear on Malayalam screen.
