Erie Airpark

We wanted to reach out to our neighbors and update everyone on what we have going around the neighborhood.

We met last Tuesday and named 4 different items the town is proposing, developing, or changing around our neighborhood.

  1. Sierra Vista Development (south of EAP, West of Bonanza)
  2. Airport Drive Construction, Development, and County Line Road Connectivity
  3. Updated Through the Fence Fees and proposal to the Town from the Airport Economic Development Advisory Board
  4. Colorado National Maintenance Yard

We are going to try to update the neighborhood as we hear about these items or when pertinent dates pertaining to meetings are coming up.

This way you as neighbors, can attend meetings, reach out to the town, make your voices and opinions heard.

This is the information we have currently along with any published meeting dates

  1. Sierra Vista Development - It's going to happen. How is the question. Recently the town’s Planning Commission approved the zoning for the Sierra Vista Development. This is the 60.4-acre property south of the airpark and west of Bonanza (across from the Maverik Gas Station). The property is looking at a multi-tiered zoning with some commercial, mixed use and AP zoning. This is going to affect the traffic in and out of Bonanza, mostly off Highway 7, as well as the neighbors who live on the south side of the crosswind runway. The next step is for the developer to propose the zoning to the Board of Trustees for final approval. Applicant Presentation The meeting is scheduled on April 28th at 7:00PM

  1. Airport Drive - County Line Connectivity – As many have seen, the town has been looking at the idea of connecting Airport Drive with County Line Road. There was a public engagement meeting on Feb 25 as well as a presentation to the AEDAB on March 19th. They are now deciding on which route is preferred and going to present to Council with updated costs etc. There should be a presentation to Town Council Early May.

  1. Updated Through the Fence Fees – As many of us are aware, the town is looking at finding ways to make the airport revenue neutral and able to cover its own costs. The AEDAB has developed a plan to increase revenue in a few ways. The legal viability has NOT been discussed. One option presented is increasing the through the fence fee from $600 to $800 annually. If the home has a hangar, the fee will be $800 or $0.32 per square foot of hangar space whichever is greater. The proposal also includes charging all homes that have airport access even if the house is not using the airport access or even has a hangar. They have also proposed a “base” fee for every plane which is based at the airport of $800 per plane. As of right now, the town has not decided to move forward with this proposal. The Next EADAB meeting is this Thursday at 6:30PM. Please see the link.  Meetings link

  1. Colorado National Maintenance Yard – As many know, the golf course maintenance yard is right off Bonanza. There have been many complaints from neighbors to the town about the “eye sore” that is the maintenance yard. The Vista Ridge Developer has since submitted a zoning application to change the zoning of the maintenance yard to be permanently at the current location. This is going through the process as we speak. There will be public engagement on this topic, but we are not sure when it will be presented.

The Town of Erie website states:

Public comment for public hearings is available:

  • In person during the meeting.
  • Conducted via Zoom for virtual access (check the Town Calendar for Zoom links).
  • Submitted prior to a meeting to the Town Clerk.

Residents should provide comments, CONCERNS, and questions for a specific timely topic. You can also send emails to our town representative. The more emails, phone calls, faces at meetings, will drive more pressure for the council members to ask for concerns to be addressed or for more investigation by staff and or by the advocates for each of the projects.
