Hellothis is probably something very simple, but I just can't figure it out!!! I was paiting in a pixel mode using brush tool with an Apple Pencil, I often use a two tap gesture with my hands to scroll, and somewhere during this process my brush tool has stopped working. I have tried creating a new pixel layer, choosing a different brush, different color, checked that my layer and my swatch have a 100% opacity, NOTHING works. I have restarted Affinity Designer and even my Ipad with zero results. I cannot paint with my Apple Pencil, I also cannot paint with my own finger... It just doesn't do anything, although in History I do see using paint brush! I'm going crazy here... Eraser and vector brush tools work as expected, this only affects pixel paint brush tool... Can anybody help me out? Thanks in advance!

i think i experienced the same problem on the segment editor module. It happened to me somethimes too. when it happened I noticed that It depends on how much zoom you use on the image. If i was to close the painter did not work, if i went back with the zoom i was able to see the painting on the image.

I' have really tried to learn this program, but every tutorial I watch, it seems has a different program called Affinity Photo, with different tools in different places, that or the tutorial won't tell you where they find the tools in the program.
I don't have a Paint Brush Tool or an Eye Dropper tool in my Affinity program, have I some outdated version, is there a trick, am I missing something? , are there others out there who feel like they've been robbed of hours of their time?
OK, it was a bit of a hassle because I had to create yet another Affinity account, but I download the App Store version (1.9.3) and ... My brush tool icon is STILL missing! How is something like this even possible?
There is no key stroke that does that. Most likely you just did not notice the small triangle next to the Pixel Tool (like was shown here) indicating that in the default layout the Pixel, Paint Brush, & Color Replacement Brush tools share the same spot on the Tools panel.
I like the effect of Gaussian blur. I was wondering if there's something that I don't know about that can create a Gaussian blur effect, but allow me to control where it's applied like you do with the paint brush. I've tried moving the hardness of the eraser tool down to 0% and running along the edges to create the blur, but it's still not soft enough for what I'm looking for, unless I make the brush size huge and then it overlaps areas I don't want to erase. I can work around this by cutting things from one later and putting them on another so that I can create the blur, and then merge them back down, but I was hoping there might be an easier way.
Thanks for the suggestion, @Eli. While poking around the tool, I couldn't see how to build a brush that just applies a blur. I saw how I could apply a colored, stylized brush, but I'm not sure about something that blurs instead of applying color. Would you be able to point me in the direction of accomplishing just the blur brush?
Funny story; I was planning to make a filter brush plugin like TR did, but I didn't have the time to make the resources to do it until TR made that very plugin. That's why I made brush factory for brush dynamics and not for applying a filter.
Of course, TR covered only the basics (colors and adjustments) while I'd be covering filters. What I need in that regard is a way to read all filters and apply them to a surface so I can copy over from that surface (it'd be like a clone stamp, but with the anchor point in the same coordinates on a separate image). Well, there's an idea if somebody gets bored
2. Blur the first image using things like Gaussian Blur.
3. Use the eraser with suitable size and hardness to erase the unblurred top layer image.
The erased areas will appear blurred.
2. Let Brushes Soak
You know how lovely a bath is when you first get in, all warm and relaxing, but all too soon the the water gets cold and your skin goes wrinkly, so you get out. Your brushes want to do the same, not be left to soak for extended periods resting on the bristles, the most valuable and delicate part. The water/solvent is also soaking into the wood of the handle and the glue holding the bristles in, and other dire tales of woe.
4. Store Brushes On Their Bristles
The tip of the handle is sturdier than the tip of the bristles so, if you want to store you brushes upright, put them into the container standing on their handles, not the bristles.
Our synthetic brushes are made specifically for long-lasting use. Our brushes are a specially formulated mixture of Nylon and Polyester tapered filament in different lengths and diameter ratios. This mixture was developed to provide the right amount of stiffness while also providing enough flex with bend recovery. The amount of tapered filament used in the mixture allows for a smooth release of the paint application onto a surface evenly. Our synthetic brushes are able to keep their shape without becoming deformed when used in Dixie Belle water-based paints as their stiffness changes very little. We developed these brushes to be dense having a lot more filament in them than you typically would with these size brushes
One of the more important parts of our brushes is the finishing process done to the ends of the filament. There is the right amount of tipping which grinds each filament tip to a finer point and flagging which splits the end of the filament tip like hair. Both the tipping and flagged is performed to specific depths on each filament strand. The flagging allows for more paint pickup, to cover more space and laying paint down smoothly on a surface.
I am trying to draw lines of various colours using the paintbrush on an image, but I cannot change the colour of the lines. I have tried changing the colour using the dropdown colour menu, as well as making sure the colour I want is in the foreground. It gives me a green line every time.

I chose to use a water-based stain that dries quickly and is easy to clean up with soap and water. I chose Minwax Wood Finish Water-Based Semi-Transparent Color Stain in Pure White. This stain is one of my favorites. It does a good job of taking away the yellow tones in pine and giving wood just a bit of a whitewashed look.
I'm having this issue where when i use the paint brush tool or the eraser tool, instead of erasing it moves the line. sometimes it will erase and sometimes the line will be moved. but when i zoom out and then zoom back in either the line will be back to normal or it will be erased like it should be. the same thing happens with the paint brush tool where if im trying to draw over the same line i have a similar issue. sometimes the line im trying to draw over gets moved or sometimes it just adds a bunch of white pixels. ive done everything to try to fix this. Ive restarted photoshop, updated all my drivers, and even uninstalled and reinstalled the program.
when i tried to go to a previous version to install it says there were files missing and to uninstal it again. i have no idea how to fix this and its really getting in the way of digital painting. Here is a video that kind of shows the issue. at first you will see that it is erasing normally and then all of a sudden it looks like it starts glitching.
The video is small and moves around the screen very quickly. I can't tell which pixels are on which layer. You might (or might not) be trying to erase pixels that are on a different layer. Can you hide all layers but one, then try? Then repeat with another layer selected and visible.
Before I was convinced there was a problem, I'd need to see the erase used on a document with just a single layer with lines drawn onto transparency. So that we can be sure that the erase is not simply revealing what is on a layer further down the stack. Which is what Jane is aluding to.
Having said that, I have had an issue with the eraser tool in the last few days that was fixed by reseting all tools, so definitely try Bob's advice. We hate suggesting people reset Preferences unless all else fails, but there is no down side to reseting tools, so I always reset All Tools when I suspect things are not as they should be. Note this is not always Photoshop's fault, but can be where we have messed up different settings to the point where things don't work properly.
