Just in case you are not familiar with the EMC network that grew like CLP out of the ILEA, here is a link to their work on KAL: lots of synergy here with EALbilingual.

Ideas for teaching a key element of English

Dear Colleague,

Not so long ago, 'Knowledge About Language' (KAL) was front and centre of nearly every English department's work. Equipping students with an understanding of how language functions was deemed an important area of study in its own right, while also enabling them to reflect on the processes of reading and writing.

Taking its lead from positive statements in the Curriculum and Assessment Review, this webinar will briefly look back at how KAL was framed in previous curricula, before looking forward to suggest ways of embedding it into your classroom practice. Regardless of classroom trends, we believe it is a key part of the subject's identity and should be an entitlement for all!

NB. Bookings close at 8am on Monday18th May.

With best wishes!
