Colleagues

I am looking for apps that would help parents support language development with their pre-school children at home - in particular nursery rhymes, songs but open to suggestions... does anyone know if these exist? better still does anyone have any experience of supporting schools in developing their own (simple) apps for this purpose?

You might find the free ‘Our Story’ app, developed by colleagues at the OU, of interest:

Chris Pim put together a little collection of useful apps on a CDrom
when we ran our recent (11th March) EAL and IT workshop - maybe we
should keep a little webpage on the go since we keep adding new ones.
Now that schools are using tablets and it is possible for them to be
passed around in groups I am also investigating how collaborative
activities can be appified but we may have to wait a bit until making
them at home, so to speak, becomes more straightforward.

Thanks Stuart. All sound useful. The ones for parents would be for mobile phones but children are using iPads so tablet apps would work there very well.. just let me know if any of these are readily available..
