Good morning,

Can anyone offer any advice as to whether the Persian (Pearson) GCSE would be accessible to someone whose first language is Dari? From what I understand, this two are mutually intelligible but are they similar enough that the student has a chance of passing?

Best regards,

Morning Josephine,

From my work with Dari speakers they are almost always successful in their Persian GCSE.

We had 3 Afghan boys take Persian this year, 2 of them also took Urdu.

All of them passed. We had a 9, a 7 and a 6.

In previous years we've had similar results.

Kind regards,

Dominic

I agree with Dominic, here in Norfolk we have had many children accessing Persian Farsi GCSEs. So long as they are shown past papers and helped to understand what the exams will look like they should get an extra GCSE to help them on their way

During my work in London since the 1980s whenever I needed advice or support around Persian issues I could rely on Shahla Taheri White. She and her colleagues led the fight for the retention of Persian GCSE. Her legacy is Rastam School which I am certain will support any work you do and provide useful advice at every stage.
