Our history resources on the Great Hunger:
were developed in 1983 and still support talk around a topic that does not go away and should not be neglected. Please let us know if you have used the resources.
Today's edition of the New Yorker contains an excellent article by Fintan O'Toole which points out that the conditions/beliefs that created the famine are still present today threatening more famines. Ironically one of the options that then saved many lives then: migrating to another country, are no longer available nowadays.
I also notice that the Historical Association is supporting oracy and encouraging pupils to talk about historical events that they want to know more about.
Happy St Patrick's Day!
