Afternoon all,

Apologies for cross posting and if it is not relevant to you.

" A candidate for whom English is an additional language may use a computer reader/reader. The computer reader/reader can help to support their reading in English." Please see page 3 for the full update from JCQ. I am not sure exactly what a computer reader means, possibly Immersive Reader or a pen?

However this is potentially really good for all our EAL students.

Kind regards,

Hi folks

There are a number of softwares that can be used as a computer reader in exams.
Full disclosure - our company provides two of these - Read&Write and ClaroRead - but other softwares are available also.

Note Immersive reader is not suitable for use as a computer reader in exams. But exam pens can be (these are slightly different to the every day reading pens available, as there are exam-specific models).

This is absolutely not intended as a commercial email - I just wanted to share a document we have put together to help explain the use of computer readers, with reference to the JCQ guidelines and what the school needs to do to apply.  Hope this is useful.

It's great news to help support EAL students to show what they know in exams without being held back by reading fluency.

Kind regards
Carrie-Ann
