EAL students accessing Eng Lit texts

Good evening,

I was looking for some advice and strategies as to how to help and support a HK student - TL1 is Cantonese - in accessing Eng Lit texts.

The student is in Y10 and the class has just started to study Jekyll and Hyde.  I have tried to help an Arabic-speaking student with this book a couple of years ago with variable success.

I would appreciate any tips.
