Hi all,
I’m supporting a primary school that wants to improve its EAL support. I’m wondering if there’s a summary somewhere of advice/ideas for schools - the basic things that you need to consider.

If not, I’d really appreciate suggestions of entry-level staff training and web resources.

Many thanks.

Hi Charlotte,

Which county are you in?
EMTAS in Hampshire are fantastic at supporting schools. They have online training courses which are free after the school pays into the SLA. They also support with all EAL needs, coming in to support individual children and giving general help and advice for individuals, groups and the whole school. They also have an EAL excellence award which schools can work towards for their great EAL provision. They can support EAL coffee mornings for parents in partnership with the school plus lots more!
Hope that helps

Kind regards,

Julie

I also noticed that this week on eggs (Twitter) that The Bell Foundation have produced a "Headteacher update" guide to everything a head needs to know (8 pages) about provision for EAL. It's a little masterpiece of contraction. Stuart
