I am trying to locate research that has assessed the effects of using graphic organisers for vocabulary instruction. In particular I am interested in research on Frayer Models (see attached example). These are sometimes modified and called things like 'Four Square'. In addition, some concept maps use the principles enshrined in the Frayer Model.

Do you know of any such research? Anything that assesses how useful these are for vocabulary learning. At this stage I am interested in any research that has assessed the effects of this technique, not necessarily research in which participants were EAL learners.

Many thanks and Happy New Year - Hamish

Hi

If you are interested in graphic organisers then I recommend checking out Oliver Caviglioli and his  https://teachinghow2s.com

I don't know anyone who has done more heavy duty reading about visualisation and cognition. His starting point was SEND but that's not a limiter on relevance and application beyond.

He is very helpful. On Twitter as @olivercavigliol

PS

I did note that you were specifically interested in Vocabulary Instruction but I think/hope my previous link is pertinent.

GianFranco Conti is another good bet for links I would imagine. I doubt he is on this list but you could ask him on Twitter.
