Hi everyone,

Just to let you know that most of the Bury CLAS team have moved to Fair Futures CIC as CLAS was closed down by Bury Council on 31st August. You can contact us at fairf...@outlook.com  or tel: 07731 402276. We’ll be carrying on our work with schools and other organisations, as well as community work we’re developing as a CIC.

My role in NASSEA is unchanged and although my work there has been hampered by the difficulties of over a year of redundancy negotiations, delays and complications in the council, we’ll be back to normal very soon! NASSEA continues to be contactable at consu...@nassea.org.uk  and via the website www.nassea.org.uk .

My use of this email address ends tomorrow so EAL Bilingual Google Group managers, please could you change my email for this group to fairf...@outlook.com

Best wishes,

Melanie

These are difficult time. I hope your move goes well. Did Fair Futures already exist or have you had to set it up? Are there any northern authorities with an EAL team now?
We have a link to NASSEA. Is our description still fit for purpose or do we need to change it?

County Durham still have an EAL Team.  Also, Gateshead, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Northumberland – in varying forms.

Thanks

Maria

Hi Stuart,

It’s going OK thanks. The drawn-out consultancy and redundancy process at least gave us some time to prepare. We set up Fair Futures ourselves and it’s affiliated to NASSEA.

There are quite a few councils in the region with an EAL team (despite what our own council said during the consultation process!): Bolton, Salford, Rochdale, Stockport, Wigan, Wirral, Lancashire …  There are different structures, team sizes and remits, of course, but still staff there. Fair Futures is continuing all of the work we did within the council and also developing work with the community that we knew was needed but couldn’t do before. We’ve got a well-established young asylum seeker and refugee group with various classes and activities, ESOL for adult recent arrivals, various classes and a social group for young Ukrainian migrants and a range of other educational and cultural activities going on.

Thanks for the reminder to check the description of NASSEA. I’ll have a look and get back to you.

Best wishes,

Melanie

Wirral still has a team. As does Liverpool and many boroughs in Greater Manchester. Still lots of good work going on up North!
