Happy New Year!
The website has been updated and made more accessible. However, currently, because it does not ask for money or channel funding, it is not a secure website. This would be costly for us to secure it but please tell us whether this makes it difficult for you to access. We have noticed that many colleague websites, including NALDIC no longer have links to CLP. We are sad to see this but will continue to provide links to sites that support EAL friendly strategies. The increasing monetisation of CPD is probably to blame for creating a culture of competition. There is increasing evidence that schools are tasking teaching assistants and other ancillary staff with 'dealing' with EAL without extra funding. Access to free information and resources is vital for them so we will continue to provide useful links and encourage others to do likewise.
CLP would argue that any EAL teacher should spend at least half their time and energy helping to develop strategies that empower multilingual learners to acquire English in mainstream classrooms. Acquisition can only occur where talk is valued.
