Permanent contract

This is an exciting and unique opportunity to join the EAL (English as an Additional Language) Team as we look to recruit a full EAL/BAME (Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic) Advisor. This role will, under the direction of the EAL Team Manager and the Head of the Virtual School - Looked After and Previously Looked After Children, EAL/GRT, support Primary and Early Years settings to establish and/or improve their EAL provision.

The role involves responding to school enquiries and requests for advice on how best to support and teach EAL/BAME pupils. The EAL team offer schools bespoke consultancy, in-school staff training and language assessments for EAL/BAME pupils. In addition, you will be required to deliver EAL training courses and networks to delegates from Primary schools and Early Years setting in Norfolk and beyond, either virtually or face to face.

The EAL service works closely with other teams: LAC (Looked After Children), PFAT (the People from Abroad Team) and the County UASC team, to help Unaccompanied Asylum Seeker and Refugee children being supported in Norfolk. This work involves providing guidance on EAL admission and induction process, advice on teaching strategies/cultural competency, and some direct one-to-one teaching.

Other important aspects of the EAL team’s work include actively championing NCC’s Anti-Racism campaign and promoting the Schools of Sanctuary and the Young Interpreter schemes in schools.

You will be required to ensure that they are well informed and remain updated on EAL policy, research, resources etc. and add useful information for schools to the team’s NORFOLK EAL Google group.

If you are a skilled teacher with experience in supporting EAL pupils and you are passionate about promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion through this role, we would like to hear from you. Please contact Tanya Ingram, EAL Team Manager, tanya....@norfolk.gov.uk, if you would like an informal discussion about this role.
