One of the best features of WhatsApp is the ability to make and receive calls over Wi-FI without burning through precious call-time minutes on your cell phone plan. It will use data instead of Wi-Fi if you're not connected to a network, so keep that in mind if you have a data cap on your plan.
To make a call through WhatsApp, the person you're calling must also have the app installed and set up on their phone to receive calls. Thanks to WhatsApp's integration into the iOS contacts, making a phone call via WhatsApp is practically the same as using the stock Phone app. Here's how you can make calls, answer calls, and decline calls on WhatsApp for iPhone and iPad.
Suddenly Siri doesn't want to make WhatsApp calls anymore. Everything was working fine and about a month ago when I say "Hey Siri, call my Fianc with WhatsApp" or "Hey Siri call "Dan" with WhatsApp" it responds to me with the following. "Sorry I don't have a WhatsApp number for "Dan", which number for "Dan" . Then it lists all the numbers I have for "Dan". I respond then with the number that's used for WhatsApp but then it makes a normal Cellular call to the person
Today I tried also to put the iPhone in DFU mode, restore from "Music" (iTunes), configure as a new iPhone rather than restoring from the backup, install whatsapp, give all permissions to Siri. Same problem.
Hi, so I got the call from Apple support July 27 2021 and they asked me to restore my phone via iTunes. And then set it up as new phone. And then download WhatsApp. This has actually worked!! But when I restored my backup it stopped working again. So as per Apple support, there something in my back up that is causing it.. so unfortunately I have to restore my phone in order to have Siri working again with WhatsApp..
Thanks, I did the exact same thing yesterday, restored from iTunes, installed whatsapp manually, but the problem was there even before restoring from the backup.. so I really don't understand... I will try again. If it doesn't work, it will be finally the moment to move to Telegram ;)
I have this question too, I can't recall which update I did, but suddenly it just stopped working, this is really a problem when using CarPlay, I hope Apple gives us a real fix soon, takes a lot of time to reset everything!
WhatsApp has optimized its calling service so that the feature works reliably even if you're on a low-bandwidth internet connection or using a phone with limited memory, like one of the picks in our best phones under $100. The ease of use makes calling on WhatsApp as seamless as it gets, and as an added bonus, you don't have to worry about the service using too much data.

With millions of daily users around the world, WhatsApp is one of the most popular communication apps around. And while it's mostly known for its group chats, its voice calling feature is just as important.
WhatsApp lets you make free voice calls to your contacts. This is an especially useful feature if your contacts live overseas, as it saves you from the expensive international calling fees that would normally make these calls unaffordable.
1. Open WhatsApp and in the Chats section, tap the conversation with the person that you want to call. If you don't already have a conversation open with them, you'll have to start one.
2. In the upper-right corner of the conversation screen tap the call icon, which looks like a phone. WhatsApp will dial their number, and if they answer, you'll be connected on a call.
For a little more than a month, Android users have been able to make calls through WhatsApp, and now the feature is rolling out to iOS users. The popular cross-platform chatting app started making the VoIP calls feature available to iPhone, with availability making its way to all iPhone users in the coming weeks.
VoIP uses your Internet connection rather than cellular service to make voice calls, similar to what Skype and FaceTime Audio do. To learn more about the app, check out our How to Use WhatsApp guide to become a messaging master. Here's how you can make voice calls from WhatsApp:

I found online that a t-mobile customer with the same issue, in 2016, was informed by T-Mobile that when T-mobile realizes there is an issue with the connectivity of the WhatsApp call, T-Mobile itself changes from data call to a regular call, and then charges the customer. Take a look on the attached screen shot.
I just had the same problem and the agent blamed it on WhatsApp. I have been using WhatsApp for international calls for 10+ years and never had this issue. The agent said that when there is a problem with connectivity WhatsApp changes it to a direct call and uses their network, which I don't get! Last year I put a block on all international calls and the agent confirmed that this is still active. Clearly it is pointless since they are still able to switch my WhatsApp call to normal just to charge the clients extra.
Hi Sylvia, you can go to every cell phone forum out there and tell your story. A lot of people check on these forums before choosing a cell phone carrier. On this actual competitive market, reviews, good and bad, are everything!
I understand the technical issue but T-Mobile should prompt at switching, if this is the case, a message to the customer, that will be a $3 /min charge if continue talking (just like Google Voice announce 1c/min for using their service)
Again what can T-Mobile do? There are regulations, and laws stopping T-Mobile doing what you ask. Also T-Mobile has no control on the OS and software you are using to do anything. If you want those FCC regulations and laws from around the world give me a few weeks and I can probably do about 30-40 with actual references for you. It would actually make me giggle you switch and sometime after that switch you get charged because Whatsapp code is trash and people should have already moved away from them long before Meta bought them.
WhatsApp does not switch calls over to the phone line. It might use cellular data if the WiFi is not good, but that is not a reason for the carriers to charge per minute fee for data usage for which they already charge, either based on limited gigabytes or unlimited data plans.
If this becomes an issue to me, I am out of T-mobile service. I continue to stay with T-mobile because of their excellent customer service, not because they are cheaper, and definitely not for their coverage.
Has anyone tried to make calls thru Whatsapp using carnival WiFi? The website says Whatsapp is included in the $5 a day social media package, which I know includes the instant message, but I'm wondering if actual calls can be made using this plan like when I'm on land .
We had the Social networking package. My son and myself both have iphones and we were able to use the Imessage for a few days. Mine stopped working like the last three days. His stopped working the last two. We were able to message and video chat through facebook. The video chat wasn't great it kept freezing up and unfreezing but we were able to see my 5 month old grandson every night which made his mother happy so she could enjoy her cruise. lol
The FB/Social Media package is only part of the 'new' internet plans - if you are on a ship that still has the old plan (not sure there are many left like that?) then you are simply paying for internet minutes /packages and would use whatever sites you wanted including email, etc.
I haven't had anyone I've sailed with on the "social" plan get calls to work (be it thru FaceTime audio, or Whatsapp). This makes sense since it is the other packages intended for streaming, the social package is really just for basic posting/messaging.
For what it's worth, I always use the "premium" package and even with that I've struggled to get a signal for a call (not even video call) on both ships I've had it on. I mentioned it at Guest Services both times since that package is advertised to support Skype etc video calling, which is definitely did not.
I made calls through Facebook messenger on Splendor & Pride. There is about a 5 sec delay. I had to go outside on higher deck to get connection. My hubby at home was getting a bit annoyed with delay, but it's better than $1.99 a min from cabin.
