Elvin Dean Dunson Suddenly Dies In California
Friday, 13 May 2016, we Eagle Mountaineers suddenly lost yet another part of us. Our hearts now have a new void, created by the passing of "Deano" at 66 years young. Dean Dunson was a early resident of Eagle Mountain, the second son of Elvin T Dunson and Lois Lorene Edgmon. He went by his middle name until high school, when he became "Deano", He was very active and, of course, on the Eagle Mountain High School football team. "Deano" was, as I remember, a cocky underclassmen who mostly seem to always have a wonderful smile on his face- almost like guess what I've been doing? Always alive and on the go!
After graduation, 1967, Dean enlisted in the Navy. He was American sailor during the Cold War, doing is part to help keep our country safe and free. Thanks for your service, Dean.
After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Dean became a law enforcement officer. If my memory serves me correctly, that was in the Los Angeles basin. He got married, too. But life served Dean some sour cherries and he went through some tough times. Being a strong individual, he came through it all- transformed into a new, wonderful, compassionate person.
During the 1999, EM reunion at Laughlin, Nevada, I saw "Deano" and found him to be most affable! I really liked the new Dean Dunson. He was a friend to me, when I really could use one. I needed a place to stay for a week and "Deano" invited me into his home by the Salton Sea. What a wonderful person he was... surely many others saw this quality, too.
"Deano" was a local entertainer in the Coachella Valley. Mostly small places where he sang and invited audience participation. I got to attend a couple of his performances, they were quite good. Back in high school, I never would have pictured him doing that.
Dean's passing takes a piece of every Eagle Mountaineer with him. He was good human being and will be missed not only by his siblings, relatives and friends, but also by us EMHS Eagles who knew him in school.
We extend our sincere heart felt condolences to Harold (Jim), Sherie and Brenda (Skeeter), his siblings. We shall remember you kindly, "Deano".
