eaccelerator.debug defaults to enabled?

One of my clients on Amazon EC2 ran out of disk space today. The culprit? eAccelerator logging every hit in Apache's logs. Has the default for eAccelerator debugging always been 1? 

I installed by downloading from git and only using the single "./configure" command. (default)

I added eaccelerator.debug = 0 to php.ini but was just curious since the defaults listed here show "0":
