Dear SPP stakeholder representative,
On behalf of Ms. Inger Andersen, Executive Director of UNEP, I have the honor to transmit an invitation to attend the resumed third session of the ad hoc Open-Ended Working Group on a science-policy panel to contribute further to the sound management of chemicals, waste and to prevent pollution (SPP OEWG 3.2). The meeting will be hosted by the Government of Uruguay at the Convention and Exhibition Center in Punta del Este, Uruguay, from 15 to 18 June 2025, and will be preceded by informal and regional consultations on 14 June 2025.
As agreed at the first part of the third session (SPP OEWG 3.1), the resumed third session is organized back-to-back with the Intergovernmental Meeting to consider the establishment of the science-policy panel, scheduled from 19 to 20 June 2025 at the same venue. Additionally, the first meeting of the Open-Ended Working Group (OEWG) for the Global Framework on Chemicals will be held from 24 to 27 June 2025 at the same venue.
Considering the relevance of the science-policy panel for multiple sectors, UNEP accredited organizations, stakeholders admitted as observers to the meetings of relevant chemicals and waste-related multilateral environmental agreements, the World Health Organization and the International Labour Organization, and focal points representing non-governmental organizations under the Global Framework on Chemicals are invited to participate in the resumed third session as observers.
All representatives wishing to attend the meeting are requested to register online no later than 31 March 2025. Subject to the availability of resources and upon request, UNEP will sponsor the participation of a limited number of Major Groups and Stakeholders representatives. Additional information on travel support is outlined in the annex to the attached letter.
