This week we will discuss the piece, "The Base Rate of Longermism is Bad", about the track record of people attempting to affect the long-term future. The beginning and end of the post are the most important to read. And the top comment is excellent!

Meet at Buzzmill on Town Creek Dr (there are 2 locations) on Thursday 9/15 from 7:30-10:00pm. Feel free to RSVP to the Facebook event if you'd like to let others know you're attending.
If parking looks cramped you can park at the Walgreens nearby. We are past the intolerably hot evenings, so we will be outside unless the weather changes.
There are two (vegan) food trucks 🙂
Event is impact-focused to start, but as the topic loses steam (about an hour in), we switch to socializing.
See you there!

What is "EA Austin"?
Firstly, "EA" stands for "Effective Altruism". Effective altruism is a project that aims to find the best ways to help others, and put them into practice. It’s both a research field, which aims to identify the world’s most pressing problems and the best solutions to them, and a practical community that aims to use those findings to do good. EA *Austin* is the local Austin chapter of the global EA community. We support each other in increasing our positive impact!
If you are new to EA and wish to attend this event, please read this overview of effective altruism (15 min read). Feel free to DM a host if you have questions!:
