Subject: URGENT: Final push for cleaner cars

Dear Arthur,Let's finish the job for clean cars
You helped California make clean car history - now I need your help to make sure that the rest of the country follows California's lead.

A few weeks ago we won here in California. Now, California's cars will release 75% less smog-forming pollution thanks to a recent decision by our state's Air Resources Board - and it wouldn't have happened without you and the more than 10,000 others who emailed the board and urged them to adopt strong clean car standards.

I am so proud to live in a state that's leading the way on clean cars - but to truly keep California's air clean and fight global warming, the rest of the country needs to keep pace.

As you know, President Obama announced a plan to double federal fuel efficiency standards to 54.5 mpg by 2025, but some persistent polluters and their allies in D.C. are trying to stop that from happening.

We're not going to let them. Dozens of you joined us in person at the federal EPA hearing to tell the agency to stay strong on national clean cars standards, and now it's time to send in our official comments.
The public comment period ends this coming Monday, so we only have a few days left to make sure the EPA knows that Californians want them to move forward with historic federal clean car standards.

What's at stake? New clean cars standards that will:
  • require cars and light trucks to meet a 54.5 miles per gallon standard by 2025,
  • save more oil than we imported from Saudi Arabia last year, and
  • slash global warming pollution by an amount equivalent to shutting down 70 coal-fired power plants.
We've fought too hard, for too long, to miss this important opportunity to help get America off oil and stop global warming. We must show the president and the EPA that Californians want them to stand strong on this one.
That's why I hope you'll send a message to the president today.
Tell President Obama to stand up for cleaner cars, and help ensure this landmark action accelerates us away from oil as fast as possible.
Thanks again for your work to make our cars cleaner.
Sincerely,
Dan Jacobson
Environment California Legislative Director
