The EAPOST project will present a webinar titled "Simulation-based inference in introductory statistics" on Friday, May 29 at 3pm ET, 2pm CT, 1pm MDT, 12pm MST, 12pm PT.  The presenter will be Michael Howes of Stanford University, who has been mentored as an EAPOST Scholar by Chathurika Abeykoon of Rhodes College.

Webinar abstract: As a 2026 EAPOST scholar, I worked with Prof. Schramm to add simulation based inference to STATS 60 — an introductory statistics course at Stanford University. Compared to previous iterations of the class, we taught hypothesis testing and p-values earlier. The students used coins and the one-proportion applet to perform “what-if” simulations. Some of the examples were from EAPOST but I also used new examples including one based on a cheating scandal in the video game Minecraft. Based on feedback from the teaching assistants, the students in the class demonstrated a better understanding of hypothesis testing than previous cohorts.
