SR-71 Crew Chief
Chief Garnica served in the Air Force from February 1973 to June 2002. His military specialty (AFSC/MOS) was Crew Chief and he maintained a wide variety of aircraft throughout his military career.
A special highlight was to serve at the 9th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing at Beale AFB and Kaden AB, Okinawa, Japan for 14 years of his 29 years. Supporting the U-2C and U-2R models and SR-71A and SR-71B.
His duties included the maintenance and rigging of the flight control systems, landing gear and canopy systems; later he joined the flight-line crews in supporting the SR-71 missions/flights. He completed his last SR-71 assignment at Kadena AB in March 1990.
His follow-on assignments led him to other air force bases in the U.S. with a final assignment to Edwards AFB from April 1997 to June 2002. In his last position, he was the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Commander of the 412th Operations Group. After his military retirement, he served as a contractor supporting the Airborne Laser Program and the Northrop Grumman RQ-4 Global Hawk test and development.
He continued to support the various drone programs as a Project Manager in his role as a USAF Civil Service employee, ending his civil service career in March 2019.
