Chapter Updates - Election
2026 EAA 723 Board

  • Chris Darden, President
  • Robert Appleford, Vice President
  • Dawn Maloney, Secretary
  • Barbara Filkins, Treasurer
  • Alan Gurewitz, Director
  • Jeff Luckey, Director
  • Ali Moghaddas, Director

We’re incredibly thankful to Ali Moghaddas for his many years of service as our chapter president. Ali’s leadership and significant contributions include negotiating a comprehensive lease agreement, acquisition of EAA assets including the new Redbird and oversight of incoming donations. His contributions have been instrumental in our chapter’s success.
Ali has kindly agreed to stay on as a Director.

We’d also like to thank Jim Peters for all his valuable contributions to the board. His leadership, active participation, and dedication to the scholarship program have been some of his most significant contributions to our chapter. Jim led the way in identifying qualified candidates for the EAA scholarship program. Even though Jim is no longer on the board, he will continue to be a valuable member of the EAA 723 chapter.

Please welcome Jeff Luckey, our new board member

Hanger Happenings

Doug Wagner

There has been a lot of activity in the hangar this past month.  We moved some of the planes around to make it easier to move around and for plane movement.   You will notice a white Q200 in Tom Swires area.  He now has 2 planes to work on.

Jay Hansen sold his RV-12 and it is now in Casa Grande AZ.  Jay has donated some of his belongings to the chapter.

Be careful when opening the front and back doors when the Santa Anna Winds are blowing.

Builder activities:

  • Tim Patrick has the Red Savannah.  Tim has finished his conditional inspection and flying some.
  • Doug Wagner with the EZE has been working the fuel systems and getting close to doing fuel flow test.  I have changed the routing of some of the wires in the engine area following suggestions from some of our members.
  • Ali Moghaddas is building his Glass Air III wing and is in the process of making the interior ribs and braces.
  • Andrew Freesh and dad Bill are building the Spitfire.  They have been cleaning up the area.
  • Jay Hansen has sold his plane and vacated his area.
  • Andy Barkin is looking at getting rid of his projects since he has little time to work on them.
  • Michael Tiefenbach with the Davis 2.  He has the cowling off and working on the nose gear strut and other items.  He is in the process of a conditional inspection.
  • Tom Swires with the Zenith.  Tom is making a center consol and lots of other parts.  He is making great progress with the Zenith and now adding the Q200 to his projects.
  • Stuart Sechrist has brought in a set of wings he built for his RV-12.  Workmen ship is very good.
  • Matt Caroll brought in the wings for his airplane.  Very nice workmenship.

EAA Explorers

Robert Appleford

Great news! The Aviation Explorer Post is growing, and we’re thrilled to welcome five new explorers. We’re also working on the new Zenith plane.

Chris Darden and the explorers are wrapping up the flight simulator construction. This will be another fantastic EAA asset which is budget-friendly (free) for all EAA members.

Next up, we’re planning to build a wind tunnel.

As we’ve mentioned, we’re always on the lookout for volunteers to lend a hand with any of the Explore programs or to create a lesson plan. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Zach or me.

I’ll be diving back into the website to polish it up and would love to hear your thoughts on any improvements or areas for enhancement.

Have a wonderful holiday season!
