I would like to add a note about ethanol free gasoline.
I started using ethanol free gasoline 17 months ago when I bought a new Honda Civic. I happened upon using E-free gas by chance. My first few tanks of gas were purchased at Chevron and I averaged about 37 mpg. When I purchase gas at Smith's Market, my mpg suddenly dropped to 33 mpg. So I alternated between the two for several tanks and discovered a strong correlation and consistent results while purchasing the same grade of fuel at both. I occurred to me the difference might be the ethanol level, so I searched and found that a station 1 block from my work in Orem had E-free gas. My mileage jumped to 42 mpg average and freeway jumped to 54 mpg giving my car a range of 520 miles at average consumption.
I shared my findings with friends at work and family at home. They all reported similar improvements in mileage and better power and responsiveness from their engines. The E-Free gas costs about $0.30/gal more (7-10%) but gives 20% to 30% better mileage. I highly recommend giving it a try in your vehicles.
On a side note to this, my neighbor is the head of the Utah Division of Air Quality. (you will frequently see him interviewed on the news.) When I told him about my results he nodded and said the State had done their own study several years ago and found that adding ethanol neither helped with mileage nor did it reduce air pollution. They had taken the test results and petitioned the Federal Government to be exempted from the ethanol mandates, but were denied even though the data clearly showed a net detriment by using ethanol.
You can do your own analysis.
