Any cool stories from anyone about OSH? I wasn't able to go this year, but kept up on the daily activities as best I could on the internet. This morning I heard a rather interesting engine sound overhead, and looked up to see a Wilga flying over. I believe that is someone from this chapter. Thanks for the inspiration...I think I'll fly this afternoon.

The Wilga belongs to Cory Robbins.  We met up at Oshkosh.  He and a friend camped out at the north 40.  It has this russian radial and cruises at a whopping 75-80mph at 17 gph.  They had a tarp over the wing that must be 10 ft. off the deck.  made  for a cool shelter.  My grandson and I spent 7 days in a tent in homebuilt camping.  Which should be renamed RV world.  I'll bet 70% of the homebuilts were rv's.  You can't beat em' for looks and speed. but if you want to go camping and bring gear you bring a pick-up truck (Glastar).  Drives like one hauls like one.  Sat nite a 60mph gust front blew thru.  tipped over port a pottys and steel dumpsters.  blew tents, chairs tables and paper all over the place.  did'nt see any ac damage.  the wind hit my plane broadside but the claw held firm.  The nite show was great as was the fireworks.  neatest plane there:FW 190  with the bmw 601 radial.  Did not see it fly tho.  good times.  Dave Carberry

'twas me!   New M14 gettin' hung on her in OGD (some of my CAF buddies helping me out).   She'll like the extra ponies.

I kept a running commentary on our group Facebook page http://facebook.com/slowandlow

Lots of Oshkosh videos and photos there, the Wilga draws an interesting crowd.  Made the frontpage of the newspaper the Friday before the show.   Was fun!

I would like to offer a correction.  The Wilga cruises every bit at 75-80, but in KNOTS!   Whoohoo! Yea, that's 86-92 Mile per hour folks!

I fully expect that at the same cruise speed (maybe I'll push her up to 100MPH), and with the M14P.  I can get the fuel burn down to 14 GPH.  That's all remaining to be seen though!

AirVenture was really awesome.   Is anyone going to copperstate?  I'm thinking about it..  But a hotel might be in order on that one - I'm not a fan of dust.

the hot tip for Copperstate is Payson (PAY).  It's about an hour northeast (at 75-80 KNOTS!).  They have a great campground on the field and a restaurant.  Its up in the mountains and has always been nice and cool compared to Casa Grande.  Believe me the camping really sucks  on site.  dust, red ants, noise, lights that don't go out, etc, etc.  You can fly down in the am and see everything then fly back to a nice dinner and cool campground.  there is also a indian casino near by that has a shuttle to the airport.  never stayed there but was told the rooms are nice and cheap to.  Dave
