The Christie Hospital Joins Elekta and Philips Research Consortium to Develop MRI-Guided Radiation Therapy System for Cancer Treatment
Elekta (NSE:EKTAb) and Royal Philips (NYSE:PHG, AEX:PHIA) announced today that The Christie NHS Foundation Trust (Manchester, UK), a specialist cancer center, will join a consortium whose mission is to develop the clinical value of an integrated magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) guided radiation therapy system. Such a system would, in principle, improve the practice of radiotherapy via real-time visualization of cancer targets.

Philips Second Quarter Results 2014 - Healthcare Sector
Philips reports Q2 sales of EUR 5.3 billion and EBITA of EUR 415 million. Healthcare comparable sales showed a 4% decline year-on-year. The EBITA margin, excluding restructuring and acquisition-related charges, declined to 10.5%, a decrease of 3.8 percentage points year-on-year. Equipment order Q2 2014 Quarterly report and Semi-annual report intake in Europe and growth geographies showed a high-single-digit increase, while North America posted a double-digit decline.

Better Use of Electronic Health Records Makes Clinical Trials Less Expensive
Using electronic health records to understand the best available treatment for patients, from a range of possible options, is more efficient and less costly for taxpayers than the existing clinical trial process, a new study shows. Research led by Professor van Staa, carried out while he was a member of the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) and who is now based at The University of Manchester's Health eResearch Centre, published in Health Technology Assessment (HTA) looked at the use of statins in 300 people with high risk of cardiovascular disease by tracking their electronic records.
