Denmark Displays Solutions and Visions for the Health IT Sector
6 - 8 May 2014, Berlin, Germany.
As the partner country of conhIT 2014 Denmark will be represented on all three days of the event, and not only at the Industrial Fair. It will also be participating in the Congress, where Danish speakers will be holding five lectures at four sessions. On Wednesday, 7 May at 3.30 p.m. an event under the heading of "Innovation Exchange Project Pitching Contest" will be taking place.

Mobile health (hereafter "mHealth") covers "medical and public health practice supported by mobile devices, such as mobile phones, patient monitoring devices, personal digital assistants (PDAs), and other wireless devices". It also includes applications (hereafter "apps") such as lifestyle and wellbeing apps that may connect to medical devices or sensors (e.g. bracelets or watches) as well as personal guidance systems, health information and medication reminders provided by sms and telemedicine provided wirelessly.

Health Outcomes for Major Medical Conditions Vary Considerably across Europe
Health outcomes for major medical conditions requiring hospital care vary considerably between and within European countries, according to a study evaluating the performance of seven European health care systems. The EuroHOPE (European Health Care Outcomes, Performance, and Efficiency) research project compared the health outcomes during the latter part of the 2000s for acute myocardial infarction, ischaemic stroke, hip fracture, breast cancer and very low birth weight and very low gestational age newborn infants, as well as all-disease outcome measures.

Physical Rehabilitation of Patients with Neurological Diseases Based on Virtual Reality Technology
The clinical study called "Virtual Reality Games combined with normal rehabilitation are an effective alternative in MS patients" by the Eugenia Epalza Basque Multiple Sclerosis Foundation and the Department of Neurology of the University of Navarra will be presented at the 8th World Congress for Neurorehabilitation in Istanbul, Turkey. The results obtained from the trial show a significant improvement in various body functions of the patients especially in static and dynamic balance, fatigue levels and in their level of functional independence.

On 6 May conhIT opens its doors for three days, with over 340 exhibitors, more than in any previous year, presenting their latest IT products and eHealth services in Berlin. In addition to the exhibitor numbers a look at the latest figures also reveals an increase in the event's international appeal. Around 25 per cent of the companies are from abroad, mainly from neighbouring countries.

A Third of European Hospitals Report Operating Losses
Facing rapidly rising costs, a third (33 percent) of European hospitals are reporting operating losses, generating negative earnings after tax, according to a new nine-country study released by Accenture (NYSE:ACN). Accenture's European Hospital Rating Report includes an in-depth review of the 2011 financial statements of more than 1,500 hospitals in nine countries: Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland.
