Beatty tells Montag that firemen are "custodians of peace of mind" and that they stand against "those who want to make everyone unhappy with conflicting theory and thought ." How well are the firemen accomplishing these goals? Are conflicting ideas the only source of unhappiness in their society? (***make notes about who is happy and who is unhappy in society)

The main character Montag is very unhappy because after a decade of being a firemen Montag finally realizes the importance that books provide. He realizes that books not only provide history of what his town once was but some good information that can change a mans way of thinking such as the bible.

Firemen do there job and their job is to burn books. The happy people are the ones who agree with the act like the firemen. The ones who don't agree are the people who dont support the act like Montag.

Fire men are also not happy, so it is hard to believe that everyone else can be happy deep down. In this society every has been accustomed to that way of thinking so its tough to be different

I think that the firemen in the book are not accomplishing the goals that they were suppose to do. I think that they have failed since they eventually burn down each other's houses, and what good does that do? On page 106, it says ""Why" said Montag slowly, "we've stopped in front of my house."" This is the scene where they arrive at Montag's house to burn it down. It shows they have failed since they burn down each other's houses. They go against each other in this society and that causes unhappiness.

I think the firemen do what they are told no questions asked. They are not that good at doing their job because they are kind of careless and read books and burn them later, they are not doing their job correctly
