Why do you think Rosa is so hard on Liesel especially after all shes been through?

[Samuel]

I think that Rosa is hard on Liesel because that is just the way Rosa loves her. Rosa shows her love differently than most people do and Liesel see that eventually and understands it. Rosa also shows her love like that because it is necessary to some degree to keep her in line and keep her out of trouble. 

[Nicholas]

She wants Liesel to be strong like Rosa is through this time so she doesn't want Liesel to not be able to make it through the rough times in life. 

[John]

She is hard on Liesel because she has always had a different way of showing love to her family. In this case she gave Liesel tough love, but Liesel knew she had her back in times of need.

[Gannon]

I think Rosa is hard on Liesel so that she is afraid to do something bad or mess something up. Rosa likes to swear and call people names, "And be quick about it, saumensch!"(64). Rosa was telling Liesel to do something and she had to add in the mean word. She is trying to make Liesel tough and be used to it.

When does Liesel realize fully that Rosa is a loving woman?

[John]

I think it was the moment Rosa pulled her out of class. Liesel was expecting to get yelled at but, instead was given news about Max getting better. That signified that their relationship was only going to get better.

[Rebecca]

I think Rosa is so hard on Liesel because she doesn't really know how else to show her love. Hans is so lenient, loving, and gentle that Rosa feels the need to be tough on her. Although, in part 6, Rosa joined Max Hans and Liesel building a snowman. This shows how she's trying, shes showing her love. "Once she recovered, she came down and helped them. She even brought the buttons for the eyes and nose and some string for a snowman smile."
