Good docs or examples of setting up e2guardian filterlist, filtergroups, etc working with MITM

I am trying to setup a development environment on Debian 12 running e2guardian and squid.  Backed it down to just e2guardian to get MITM functioning.  Explicit proxy required.  Cannot use transparent proxy for our requirements.

This is the first time setting up e2guardian.  Tried researching the github pages/docs and did not find everything . . . or maybe I just missed it?  

I then went to chatgpt and grok and those did not line up.  Constantly provided inaccurate information.  Then tried claude and it was worse for e2guardian.  It does well with application dev but worse than chatgpt and grok for what I would call more infrastructure related setups like e2guardian.  

If someone has a sample setup, that would be extremely helpful . . . or point me in the right direction if someone has already.

I was able to get this working with the version that comes with Debian 13.  Not certain why Debian 12 and its version of e2guardian had issues with MITM, but Debian 13 with e2guardian worked without issue.
