-------------------------------------------------------
Right now, Seattle is hosting an event called "Seeds of Compassion,"
events, workshops, lectures, etc. centered around the Dalai Lama's
visit here. I'm excited that my wife, Apple, is working as one of the
translators for the multi-language webcast. All of the information,
including webcasts of lectures, for this event is available at
www.seedsofcompassion.org.
In terms of art and craft, the event also recognizes the importance
of "Compassion in Action" and the contributions of art, music, poetry
and the like to compassionate spirituality. A rare sign in these
times. Friends, and artists whose work I respect and have exhibited in
my work, invloved with segments of the event are Bellingham potter
Chris Moench, who will personally present the Dalai Lama with one of
his ceramic prayer wheels; and artists Chiyo Sanada and June Sekiguchi
who will be a part of the Art Exchange exhibit "What Does Compassion
Look Like?" http://www.artexchange.org. Victoria Scarlett will be
giving a lecture on "Sacred Art" in one of the Seeds of Compassion
workshops, www.seedsofcompassion.org.
Although I've made no personal contribution to this event (except
chauffer), and will not be one of the fortunate 55,000 to see and hear
the Dalai Lama today at QWest Field; I feel very proud that my
hometown, my alma mater (University of Washington), and most of all my
wife are involved with an event as important as this. I hope you all
can visit the website(s) to learn more about the message of planting
seeds of compassion in our youth and in society in general.
Best regards and Gassho,
Tatsuo Tomeoka
