THRIVING With Seth" - Dad Ross (Ohio)

A couple of days ago. I tried to honor my brother who moved into my decade because he's my younger brother. He celebrated his birthday last Saturday, though he may be out of the country as I haven't heard from him.

But now, today, is Seth's birthday and he's always behind me too, as it Scott, though with Scott is just about 5 years and with Seth some thirty.

He was our first-born, though the Lord allowed us to have two other sons that are also special. Those were our biological children. They have provided us with 8 grand children - 4 of each. Then we had another family, but that would be another story.

Seth was born without any assistance from me ... I know! I know! I was not needed at that time. It was all up to Cheryl then. I was shown the waiting room for expecting Dads, and not being  smoker I didn't know what to do for those hours, though as many of you know, she was hard at work while I was idly sitting by.

Finally the doctor, our, appeared at the door. I didn't know what I expected ... boy or girl, either would have been fine. When he said, "Mr. Ross, you have a 'son'." I know it took a moment or two for that to sink in, but then I wanted to know how Cheryl was. As much as I knew I would love this little boy, it was her that I wanted to know about. She really had a long, long labor and she had some difficulties, but thankfully, it wasn't too long before I could see her, though longer than I liked.

That started us on the years of parenting, for which none of us men are really prepared. I suppose I should make that personal as I was not prepared. A few days later when we took him home, she held him and I helped her into our house and then we went into his nursery and she laid him down on his crib mattress and it forcibly struck with this thought, "What have we done? What now?"

She was far better prepared for this than was I. She to this day denies that, but though she was more successful later in life as we went on our with our lives. I still remember that day when I realized we had this "Seth Owen" home now and I was terrified, but she brought Seth and I through it all.

He's been an amazing son and we're very proud to have him as our pastor here at North Hills. And we're proud of his work in the ministry.

Happy Birthday, son number one ... Seth Owen Ross, another S.O. Ross. In fact my Dad gave Seth Dad's own signet ring. Hope he enjoys life and his family like my Dad did, and as Cheryl and I have with ours. He seems to be.
