Has anyone had the issue of E-prime 3 randomly shutting down while you are working in it? Mine will do this about 1-2 times per hour - just completely shut down. I have to re-open it and pray that I saved my work recently. Thank you for any tips or ideas about this!

Hi,

I used to have this issue, particularly when there were many slides with various objects being used, and somewhere there seemed to have been some memory leak (random pictograms were being exchanged for crosses – if you get that, save immediately!). While I do not have a good suggestion as to how to avoid it (maybe run fewer background applications), and can mainly point to the direction of PST support, I can suggest that should E-Studio crash while it’s just saving, don’t panic: E-Prime keeps backups for the last bunch of times it compiles the code (every time you run it, but not, note, if you use the windowed testing feature), which you’ll find by going to tools>options (general tab). It’s not much consolation to your current troubles, but it saved me many times in the past!

Best,

Michiel

Hello,

That's quite unusual. Any crashing behavior is rare, and furthermore you say this happens randomly during editing, i.e. this isn't only when you run a given experiment, generate, save, are attempting to open an experiment, etc. Those cases usually suggest an incomplete installation/missing prerequisites, running on an unsupported configuration, wider machine issues, working on corrupted files, or as Michiel suggested, resource-intensive background processes or a design that allows for an unintended memory leak (extremely uncommon in the latest minor version of E-Prime 3.0).

The only "outstanding" known issue that seems remotely possible here is BUG: Attribute tab may cause crash when using on-screen keyboard [30619]. Assuming this isn't applicable, I would see if reinstalling all the prerequisites locally with full Admin privileges resolves the issue and if not, submitting a request from a Registered account at support.pstnet.com. When doing so, it would be useful to clarify if this happens with one experiment in particular and preemptively sharing your system information as in https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2507/~/how-to-generate-a-microsoft-system-information-report-%28msinfo32%29.

Sincerely,
