Hello,

My lab (clinical psych/bx health) installed new computers today on one of our lab stations. When I start any of the tasks run files on the new computer (downloaded from previous computer, and including all stimuli files) the screen turns black.

Since we have two lab stations, I have made sure to match the Windows settings and E-Studio settings to be the same as the other lab station. I am able to input start-up info but when I hit 'run' the screen turns black and I have to abort the experiment.

The only two things I can think of are that we installed new monitors along with this and the new computers are Windows 11 where the old ones are Windows 10. Previously, when updating Windows and I've had issues, I've resolved them by regenerating the run files in E-Studio and saving them as new run files. I did find an article that said E-Prime 3.0.3.214 was not tested with Windows 11 which is the E-Prime version I have... but I'm hoping there can be another answer to why the screen is continuously turning black.

Thanks!

-Ashley

Hi Ashley,

My lab experienced what sounds like a similar issue when ITS pushed through a Windows update on our computers - it was more of a black flicker though, so this could be a different thing. It’s easy enough to try though, so I thought I’d mention it!

The issue for us was in needing to disable “full screen optimizations” for both ERun and EStudio. If you go to the program files you can right click each application to open “Properties”. One of the tabs there had an checkbox near the bottom of the popup window that could be selected to “Disable Full Screen Optimizations”. Hit that for both programs (ERun and EStudio) and try your experiment - if that works, yay! If not, just retrace your steps and uncheck that box and you’re back to square one.

Fingers crossed that’s the solution for you! Good luck!

Dear Ashley

It sounds like we just run into the same issue (black screen after putting in startup info), there seemed to be a windows update on our laptops running with windows 11 and using monitors to display the task. The previous version was Windows 23H sth and updated to 24H sth. We deinstalled the updates (setting>update history) and were able to go back to the previous version (23H). Afterwards, the tasks run normally. I know this is not really a permanent fix though it solved the problem for us :)
Hope this helps!

Kind regards,
Noëmi

Thank you both!!! Disabling full screen optimization did work and I have definitely done that before with our other lab station and am sure to document that this time so I don't forget :).
