Software Freedom Day is coming …

Software Freedom Day
Sunday 19 September 2010

Hi Rochelle

We wanted to let you know about an upcoming event that we are supporting. On Sunday September 19th Tauranga will have its very own Software Freedom Day, as part of a worldwide celebration of Free and Open Source Software (softwarefreedomday.org)

The open day will promote free software and free software concepts to home, education, business and government computer users.

Supported by TechnologyWise and the local BOP Linux User Group, volunteers will show visitors the extent of Open Source software and its capabilities. A wide range of software will be demonstrated including areas such as audio-visual, astronomy, business, design, educational, games, genealogy, libraries, music, and programming.

The vision of Software Freedom Day is shared by TechnologyWise: “... to empower all people to freely connect, create and share in a digital world that is participatory, transparent, and sustainable”.

The open day is free and everyone is welcome. It runs from 11-3pm on Sunday 19 September at St Mary's Catholic School, 11 Thirteenth Ave, Tauranga.

We hope that you can join us - and also assist us to promote the event by sending this email to friends, family or colleagues who may be interested. Perhaps you could print a flyer for your office or workplace. Two sizes are available here: www.boplug.co.nz/index.php/downloads

For more information visit www.boplug.co.nz/sfd or call us at TechnologyWise on 07 571 1060.

Regards

Hi Rochelle or any one else.

A while ago you sent out an A4 sheet about what is a competent user of ICT or what is ICT integration.  On the A4 sheet it has a whole lot of things like uses digital camera, using word, power point etc in a lot of boxes. (the skills kids need to be competent users of IT)  If anybody has this sheet can you please email it to me.

Thanks

Phil
