BURLINGTON - Ashley Galea says when her parents died less than a year apart, and well before they each turned 65, the world lost two hard-working, law-abiding citizens.

Her mother, a nurse who died at 62, and her and dad, a retired executive for various businesses such as Staples and Edgewell who died at 60, had bought a cottage outside Collingwood and turned it into the home where they hoped to spend the rest of their lives. In January 2024, Galea’s mother died following complications from sepsis, leaving her father with a now-combined RRSP of approximately $715,000.
