Canada takes the court for HoopFest 2026

A new national basketball initiative is coming this summer.

HoopFest 2026 will bring athletes, families, volunteers, and supporters from across Canada together for two regional basketball tournaments focused on competition, connection, and community spirit.

This inaugural year will feature:

HoopFest West — July 3–5, 2026, Edmonton
HoopFest East — July 10–12, 2026, Durham Region

Members of the Jamat, including inter-faith family members, are encouraged to participate in the tournament nearest them.

Designed to encourage long-term participation and active living, HoopFest aims to create an inclusive environment for players of all experience levels. The tournaments will include:

  • 3v3 and 5v5 basketball divisions, depending on age and gender
  • Youth and adult age categories, from U8 to 25+
  • Team and free-agent registration opportunities
  • Skills competitions
  • Community engagement activities throughout the weekend

Beyond the games, HoopFest will help strengthen friendships, leadership, and a sense of belonging through sport.

Registration is open through the HoopFest registration page. Please register by June 1. Limited spots are available.

Free agents are encouraged to register early to increase the likelihood of being matched with a team.

Financial assistance is available through the financial assistance application.

Sport and the arts are not only beautiful, they have a unique power to build bridges. Strangers who might not speak each other’s language can still come together to enjoy the same game of cricket or football and feel exactly the same passions. The poetry of great basketball, or volleyball, or wrestling is identical, whatever land you are from.

Mawlana Hazar Imam, Message to the Global Encounters Festival 2025

Stirrings of the Soul

If you desire the opening of the heart, or wish for the arrival of the secrets,
then leave the world and its people behind,
and keep your heart for the Master, and for nothing else.
For the heart is a vessel; if it is filled with the love of this world,
there is no room in it for the love of the Next.
