| Economic Update |
Let ethics and integrity guide every action, decision, and financial choice. Economic Update in Light of Current Geo-Political Events - Inflation. We have already seen rising gas prices at the pump. Grocery prices, air travel, and other everyday goods that require shipping and transport will be affected.
- Investments. There is market volatility and uncertainty. Energy and Technology are highly volatile. Consumer discretionary sectors are sensitive to consumer confidence and inflation. Materials industries including Gold are pulling back from highs.
- Housing. Expensive cities like Vancouver and Toronto are seeing housing stagnate or prices fall due to rising cost-of-living, high housing inventory and the fact that further rate cuts might be unlikely this year.
- Employment. The job market is softening with slower hiring. There is increased competition for roles, and unclear effects of AI especially in white-collar roles. Wage growth is not fully keeping pace with inflation, and we have started seeing restructuring-related layoffs.
- Small businesses face increased input costs, reduced consumer spending and increased borrowing cost.
