On Monday, March 30, we welcomed guests of the Generations Toronto inauguration into the Museum for a celebratory reception. Generations Toronto is a not-for-profit, inter-generational community where there are opportunities for people of all ages to thrive within a culturally-responsive environment. We were delighted to be part of these inauguration ceremonies and commemorate the milestone occasion.
The neighbourhoods surrounding the Museum enrich our community and programming. From connection and community to cultural celebration, Generations Toronto and the Aga Khan Museum hold many shared values. The Museum looks forward to creating joint programming in partnership with Generations Toronto to celebrate diversity, encourage intergenerational mentorship, and ensure that everyone has access to meaningful cultural engagement through the arts.

Question: The Game On! exhibition has many meaningful themes and stories to share. Is there an element that you feel is most important?
Answer: One of the most meaningful elements for me is the sense of connection that games create across time and place. When you look at a game we still play today, such as chess, it is striking to realize that people hundreds or even thousands of years ago were engaging with something very similar. As games travel across places and generations, the rules may shift, but the core experience remains deeply familiar.
Question: Do you have any favourite artworks in the exhibition?
Answer: The exhibition brings together more than hundred works, and each one feels special to me! But one I keep coming back to is a set of four tiles that form a backgammon board and, at the same time, show people playing the game. What I love about them is how you can almost hear the sound of dice and conversation happening around the board, maybe even imagine the scent of roses in the garden, with birds in the background. And as a small fun fact, these tiles are also featured on the cover of the exhibition catalogue.
Question: Outside of curating exciting exhibitions like Game On!, how do you like to spend your time?
Answer: In my free time, I enjoy reading, playing table tennis and backgammon with my daughter, watching cooking shows with my family, and taking our cat for walks in the backyard!
