Hi Everyone,

On Tuesday evening, after a hiatus, there will be a committee meeting about bringing Austin Unbound to the Bay Area.  This is originally intended to be an event (or a series of events) that brings the public together as well as raise funds for DYUSA.   

Expenses will include the fee to bring the movie here, rent venue space, as well as extra expenses for hosting such an event (food, etc.).  I want to put feelers out as to how much we are willing to put down.

At last count (before supporting Brandon William's trip here for the Male Ally Retreat), we had $2678.70 in DYUSA Bay Area account.  Any thoughts for the Committee to consider?

Rima asked and I thought I should mention in case anyone's confused and wondering if we are having a DYUSA meeting on Tuesday evening.  It's not a DYUSA meeting - it's a AU Committee meeting. 

The people on the committee are (who responded about wanting to be on the committee and have been in touch via e-mail about AU)

Hi All,
 
We're hoping to book the following dates and locations for the film screening:
 
Thursday, May 30 6-12 PM at the Little Roxy in SF
- (for two VIP screenings and  panel discussions, if time allows)
Friday, May 31 7-10 PM at DCC in San Leandro
- for one screening and panel
 
AT CSD on Saturday, June 1st (or Wednesday, May 29th)
- either through Outreach or a school program, either during the day or at night, pending school interest
 
Please mark your calendars and your availability for these dates and times would be much appreciated!
 
Confirmation will depend on DYUSA's ability to pay venue fees/deposits.

We need to get DYUSA Bay Area say OK to the major expenses:
Film Rental: $1,000
Roxy: $450
Austin: $200 airfare
DCC: $500 refundable deposit (less $120 for 3 hours of venue use)

There are other expenses as well (access (terps), food, PR, etc.) and we came up with revenue and net profits (through ticket sales and hopefully sponsorships). Can share document if you wish.

Question: go ahead and make these purchases? If so, how?

can you share the document as well? did you figure out how many ticket sales x $$$ to make up for the costs? 

i didn't want to vote for "let's discuss" if the above was already discussed by the committee :)

I guess we will go ahead with majority of the vote.. hope many get to vote.. it is due by Friday. 

Shira.. I agree with Tara.. I want more information. I am ready to say yes but I am wondering.. hope u can answer Tara question soon :)

Hello DYUSA,

It is with regret that I share that the project to bring Austin Unbound to the Bay Area has been let go.  The showing will not happen in May.  Everything has a time and place and a journey - the AU in the Bay Area journey is changing course.  

Perhaps someone will want to pursue this somewhere, sometime, somehow. This decision was not easy - it's a cool film and the Bay Area is a great location to do a screening, yet, it became increasingly difficult to carry out this project in the time frame proposed despite the time allotted. 

There were some challenges, one of which is the uncertainty of how to proceed with funding from the DYUSA front to jump-start this endeavor.
Let's keep this factor in mind if someone from DYUSA wants to initiate a project and think about how we can become more effective and efficient in making decisions and carrying out plans.

I want to thank all of you who contributed - whether it was by reading e-mails, responding to polls, sharing your ideas, going to meetings, and engaging in important dialogue.  Thanks, Sel, for all your enthusiasm and commitment to this!  I hope the Bay Area sees your film soon!
