Hello!
Eliza gave us the ok. We will pick up again in jan and move forward. Here is a compilation of our notes...Please let me know if you want to help in any way!!
Sel, Jennie, and I met to brainstorm ideas for this event.
We're very excited and have big ideas. Big ideas because time is ripe for exploration of the issues the film brings to the table by both the Deaf and Hearing communities. There is opportunity to tap into the hearing communtiy's interest in Deaf issues, and the Deaf community's interest in trans/queer issues.
We're looking at two or three showings in the Bay Area closer to the time Pride occurs (June), so that'd be sometime in May, perhaps. We are also aiming to bring it to other parts of California and targeting.
Jennie has an extensive network that will be reached to bring attention to the film and its showings. Network includes but is not limited to radio, queer community, press, etc.
Multi faceted approach
Swipes in Bay Area: Roxie, DCC, Koret Auditorium (civic center library) - shira talked w Jerry at the library and he is interested and believes Koret is a great place and that library would support.
Fundraiser for DYUSA & AU? - Eliza said not for AU.
Find free venues vs paid spaces (Brava? Castro? Roxie? Koret?)
Focus energy on 2-3 events in Bay Area
Article and press in BAR, GATE, KPFA, Guardian, Chronicle, Mission, etc.
TLC & other Hearing Trans orgs for endorsement, support, networking & $
Panel representatives (Leala)
Refreshments (possible donations from Rainbow)
Queer community (Hard French) photo booth or sponsored event for $$
Sister of PI (show up for show & possible co-sponsoring or $$)
MOMA? Other museums and artistic venues
Make list of networks & contacts (Jennie) and DYUSA networks.
California tour? Other places?
Invite potential interested parties to viewings
