I'd like for DYUSA to host Austin Unbound movie screening (a documentary on a Deaf transgender)... when should we host this event? and where? Hmm...

Roxie theater! It's on 16th near mozzeria. I already asked them for
their prices. Not bad if we use 50 person theater. More pricey if we
want 200 people

yeah that is great idea... we can try Roxie theatre.. and also maybe talk with Mozzeria about dinner and movie that Megan and I talk about for SFDC.

Awesome - and I just checked, Roxie is wheelchair accessible. (I'm so excited, I really want to see this film.)

Meaning - we'll need to pay to reserve the theater, then charge people for tickets? Profits will go to us?

Right we need to pay for the use of theater.  We can figure out the details on pricing for movie entry etc

All this sounds very exciting -- I'd love to see a Mozzeria special for dinner/movie if possible, and a panel/discussion like tara suggested. Would make for a very productive evening!

If we can manage to get the 200 person theatre at a decent price, I think we should aim that high instead of the 50 person theatre?

hi all,

i agree that a showing of AU would be grand.  i can talk to eliza about this (some of you met her at oktoberfest). she can tell us how we can make this work.  she travels to festivals and colleges and sees many/takes part in panels.  she may have some ideas for a panel we could do after the showing.

i also agree that an intimate theatre of 49 would be a nice venue.

Update:
I will be the contact person for the showing of Austin Unbound by communicating with Eliza (the film producer/director). She and I have a Skype chat on Saturday morning.  I will be telling her that we'd like to bring AU to the Bay Area at an intimate venue to share the story and have a panel discussion afterwards and it would be great if it can also serve as a fundraiser, hopefully for both DYUSA and the film. Is that the direction we are going into?
Leala will be helping out with the panel. Send me a direct e-mail if you want to be part of this particular event.
Thank you,
shira.

AU Update:

Chatted with Eliza about bringing Austin Unbound to the Bay Area.  She is game and gave me a lot of information.

Two important pieces of information:
- It will cost about $1,000-$1,200 to bring the film here (more $ for more perks such as bringing members of the AU team here)
- She told me a few other people/organizations in the area have expressed interest in the past re. bringing the film down here.

So, I will be reaching out to these individuals/organizations to see if they are either interested in joining the "planning committee" as individuals, or making this a joint effort between two or more organizations (or both).  If this becomes a joint effort between DYUSA and another organization, it may broaden our audience base and help break even and hopefully raise some money.

This event will also have a panel and Leala is interested in spearheading the panel with support from us.

It is more likely this film will be brought here in 2013 and it can become a really nice fundraising event/program and can be as elaborate as we make it (with a Mozzeria fundraising dinner beforehand, for example).

Are any of you interested in joining the planning committee - you can focus on an area that interests you the most (PR, panel, venue, etc.)

I will keep you posted from time to time, especially with any new developments.  Please feel free to send over a direct email with ideas or suggestions.

Thanks!
shira.

I'll help out with the panel. SFDC would be a great organization to work with to get sponsorship.

Looking forward to getting updates about this exciting event!

Update:

Megan is talking to SFDC about sponsorship.
Leala: Helping with Panel
Allison Gibbons: Helping with Box Office/Tickets

I will be meeting with Jennie Batchelder who is VERY interested in this project. After we meet (in about two weeks), I will have some more information about our ideas as well as more details of the needs of this project.

Thank you!
