I find that, having a child, it's hard not to formulate my own position on urgent public issues because children look up to their parents for guidance in complex issues that they cannot understand. For this case with Ferguson, I don't actually have a strong position, but I still need to explain something to my child. I don't pressure her to side with me on any issues, but I think it's important that I at least clarify my own position. So, here it is:
