I have below the details from the install. It seems to hang for a min on the tap install, then errors out.
Other considerations: I have Vmware installed and it has two adapters installed as well named "VMware Network Adapter VMnet"#
I tried with all my anti- software disabled as well.

Hi Seth,

I don't have a windows 10 here with me, but maybe we need to update the version of the driver we are using.
If you want, you can install the latest version of OpenVPN, it will install the latest tapwin32 driver.
Once installed, you can try to run the netvirt-client. If all that works, it means we have some work on our side to do !

Thank you
Nick

I read somewhere about installing the tap from system32. So I tried it. Mixed results.
It seemed to work up to the end. The tap even showed up in device manager! But after the "updating of drivers" bit, the device moved out of Network adapters to Other devices as an Unknown device.

I did try a open vpn install and then your dynvpn program. Nata.

What is the download link for openvpn. Maybe I grabbed the wrong one.

I got it working !

Reading things around the web, it seems to be an issue with Windows 10 that if any sort of TAP was installed before the Windows 10 upgrade, this area of the network would fail after the upgrade. Hence my issue when trying to install a TAP, even if none existed in the Network Connections at the time.

I followed the instructions on this URL and it worked. It may require a reboot after the reg edit. As well as a repair on the network adapter if it is not working. My wifi adapter needed repaired to get it to "see" wifi access points again.

In the registry below, look in all the 0001, 0002, etc for the words TAP-Windows Adapter V9. Add the key to this entry. It may not be 0001.
Mine was there, despite the install failing. I don't know if this was there because of the install or leftover from the Windows upgrade....

I don't know if the guid is always the same but the last id can be different for sure

  • You can open at least the class key and the just use find data: TAP-Windows Adapter V9

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4d36e972-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0001

if you have more than one tap adapters then you have to add this for all of them

In this key add the REG_SZ entry:

ComponentId: tap0901
