Could you say something about pixel density? Will the resolution be
sufficient to create illlusions of e.g. shadows underneath watch hands
and other details on the watch face?

The display has 1.7" and 160 x 128 pixels, around 120dpi. It should be
sufficient resolution to create affects like you described.
