Hello Challenge Teams!
There is an article that you may be interested in perusing in the July 2009 issue of Hour Detroit magazine. It is written by a guest columnist who participated in our inaugural DWIFF Challenge event in 2008, Nancy Nall Derringer. She describes her team's experience as part of DWIFF Challenge in 48 hours as they created a superhero film with a team assembled from a Craigslist posting. Their assigned line of dialoge was, "What's that? It smells like cheese." While the film didn't win an award, it was up there with my favorites. (Of course, for all of you who participated last year, your films were in my favorites as well!) Both of the pictures came from me, you can see Team RTV-14's dramatic finish in one of them, and the other pic that only appears in the print article is of the DWIFF Challenge creators with the infamous Wheel O' Genre: Sarah Mark, myself & Shane Sevo.
Here is the link if you would like to check out the online article:
To purchase the magazine, head to a metro D area bookstore or upscale food market. The magazine isn't cheap, $4.95 is the street price these days for a copy. Local boy Kid Rock is featured on the cover this month. Enjoy!

I love it Nancy, thanks so much for the writing and the reassuring enlightenment, that our worst fears are wrapped up in the usual bureaucracy of trying to go somewhere yesterday with tomorrows decision today.
Nancy,
You wrote a great article! Sometime, I'll tell you the origin of "What's that? It smells like cheese." Michael owes me another copy of your film with end credits too....
We had received an email from Hour in March, seeking photos for "an article about 48 hour film competitions in Detroit to be published in June." I offered to send whatever was needed. Crickets too. Then I received an email in mid April, they needed photos that day, sent them right away. Nancy, I had no idea this was for an article you had written about DWIFF Challenge. Had I known that, I would have sent photos of YOUR team!
And folks, I recommend watching Nancy's film, "Gas Man." It is a benchmark of a succesfful challenge film: great story that flows, great acting, high level of production:
Cheers to Nancy and her creative team!
