Thank you all for an amazing con - I'm quite shocked (pleasantly). I
didn't get to say goodbye to a few people, including Al and Pete...
and about 900 others - so you better be there in two years.

Yeah, goodbye all y'all.  You made the con wonderful for this li'l newbie.  Thanks for everything, especially for being you.

Tree (Dr Treehugger)

p.s. newbie question, is there anywhere that pics are collected/pooled?  I was having too much fun to take any photos, a fact which I am now desperately regretting.

I'm still travelling, so in not very keen on trying it myself while on abroad data plan, but there has been collections before on Flickr, among others.

Reside here for a few days and rest assured that those who want to share their pictures will inevitably post links to them here by the weekend, at the latest.

Still can't believe it's going to be two years to the next one - I'm still refusing to take off my turtle ring. 2010 was my first DWCon and I couldn't imagine 2012 could be any more fun, but it TOTALLY was!

You are all of you absolutely nuts and I love you all for it. Anyone else already planning out costumes/Toast and Jam sets for 2014?

It was an amazing Con :) my 5th.

I believe at one Con PTerry said something along the lines of 'yes,
but they're /my/ loonies' in reference to a question he was asked in

Isn't Toast & Jam karaoke, but with *live* backing? I suppose you might want to let Eric know what songs to add to his already impressive set list...

Me, I'm gonna try to practise the sax a bit more so I don't have to lend it out in order to hear it played properly! (Hi, Miss Charlotte, & thanks...)

The twelve bar blues with the sax was incredible! To just jam something

Normally I'd of been at the Toast & Jam as it is for me a highlight of
the Con. However
I had the chance to attend said big meal and took it as I've never
done so before and at
least now can feel I've experienced that bit of the Con atmosphere
too. Whether I'll do it again
is another matter entirely really. Do kinda wish the two didn't clash
quite so much if I were to do it
again (dinner).

Just a few words on the perceived toast and jam/ gala dinner clash.
Originally toast and jam was specifically programmed to be something which sat opposite the gala dinner. The dinner is not everyone's thing, both for reasons of money ( its a fair wadge of cash after all) and a formal occasion like that isn't everyone's style. So toast and jam was felt to be a good item to sit opposite it.
In 2006 there were people who said that they didn't find toast and jam an attractive option, and felt that the concom were ignoring the large number of people who didn't attend the dinner, so in a partial response to that, the event which runs alongside the gala dinner and ties with its themes was born. Starting with the dragon racing in 2008.

Personally I think the balance is pretty good, toast and jam is an excellent event, but isn't really suited to have 600 plus people attend it, it would lose its own character and charm. The alternative gala dinner event tends to be loud, and hectic.

I can see how that works. I meant to go to Toast and Jam - I was planning to spend the evening bouncing between there and the Cori Celesti Games, bt it didn't work out that way. After the Dr Horrible's Singalong Blog Singalong, there was another Once More With Feeling Singalong and then bed was calling. Next time...

What usually happens, though, is that after the Gala Dinner, people
come into the Toast and Jam and it gets even livelier. That's what
happened in 2008 - I remember it well. Of course, there was the
Discworld Games in Cori Celesti, and I believe there was an impromptu
event where the orchestra that played us in to the free drinks
reception then set up in Dunmanifestin, and that's all fair enough.
But there wasn't much information to tell people that the Toast and
Jam was on, which doesn't seem fair when the people involved are
working hard to make it work.

I seem to remember that in 2008, the Dragon Racing (which I didn't see
but was told was excellent) and the Toast and Jam had a fairly equal
number of people enjoying them after the Gala Dinner had finished.

My point was not that they clashed - that's always been the case, and
it seems a good idea to have both the Toast and Jam and the Cori
Celesti games (or whatever we have next time) as alternatives. My
point was that the Toast and Jam wasn't given a particularly high
profile, and that people who were new to the Convention (which I'm
told was quite a few, which is great:-) may very well not have known
that it was on.

I suppose I'm posting this out of fear that the T&J may be
discontinued, which would be a great shame if it does, as it's a
Convention tradition many of us have been enjoying for many years.

(Please note - this is not a criticism of anyone involved in any event
or its organisation, all of whom did a grand job as usual)

I agree, I enjoy doing the sound for it and it's always a lot of fun, so
maybe next time it'll be given a higher profile in the programme.
