I will admit to being a Convention virgin - I've never been to any
sort of Convention (let alone a DWCon) so I'm at a bit of a loss what
to wear. I will (of course!) have my DWCon tee shirt, plus at least
another "appropriate" one and I'll have jeans, and I assume I'll need
more "formal" shirts and trousers for the evening meals and events.
I'll NOT be wearing costume (though I do have a rather odd,
distinctive hat that I'll be bringing) and as I make no pretence to
hail from Foureks I'm not likely to be wearing shorts - not that
you'll be missing much, 65-year-old knees are not exactly a pretty
sight!

I suspect your answer will be "wear whatever you fell comfortable in"
but I WOULD appreciate confirmation and guidance on this.

Best Wishes

I would definitely wear at least some clothes. Some more adventurous
con-goers might stretch that as far as they can go and paint
themselves blue while they're at it, but you can't go wrong with
wearing bits of cloth stitched together.

> I'll NOT be wearing costume

I think we all wear costumes, in our own way. It's certainly my excuse
for a lack of fashion sense.

I think if you wear a black tie and it's not the night of the gala
dinner, people might get very confused, but that's no reason to stop.
Otherwise you're entirely right, wear whatever you'll feel comfortable
in while walking around the hotel, sitting in various rooms and
lifting forks and glasses.

Simon.

Yes, that is pretty much correct and "comfortable" covers quite a bit. I suggest you do a Google Image search on any of the larger UK conventions, you quickly get the idea.

For example:
http://www.google.co.uk/search?num=10&hl=en&site=imghp&tbm=isch&q=eastercon&oq=eastercon

Keith.

Not related to clothes but do make a point of going to "the Troll's
guide" it will help you get your bearings.

so I'm at a bit of a loss what

most people will spend most of the time in t shirt and jeans, some may
have slightly smarter variants of that, some more casual, but if
that's your usual attire you will fit right in. Unless you want to eat
at the Hotels smarter restaurant as opposed to our own catering area,
or indeed the bar you won't need anything smarter than that. Of course
if you want to be smarter than that, that too will be fine.
I understand the concern, I'm one of those people who likes very much
to be dressed appropriately but it is a very relaxed event.

The exception is the gala dinner,
Some people will be in costume, and it's loads of fun to see what
creative things people have done. Personally when I have time and
energy I love to costume up, so much that I will be wearing the
costume of a purple concom shirt and walkie talkie ;-)

I hope that helps

oh and make sure you come and say hi, I'll be the blond holding a gin
and tonic ;-)

Hi Brian,

The only event which requires any kind of formal dress is the Gala
Dinner, and even for that you can bend the definition of "formal" to
breaking point.

If you look at the photo archives you'll see a lot of pretty
spectacular costumes, but what they don't show is the majority of
members who will be wearing variations of "jeans-anna-black-t-shirt".

So really, yes, whatever you're comfortable in. Honestly. We don't
judge you on what you wear, apart from in the Maskerade.

Is there any restrictions on what Brunettes can drink?  And how many can be drinking at any one time?
