Dear Sir,
Sub: Foot Over Bridge at Okhla-NSIC Metro Station - Magenta Line.
It is known that the construction work at ‘Magenta Line’ under Phase-III expansion from Janakpuri West to Kalindi Kunj is under progress and route is likely to be thrown open for public in a few months’ time. At this line, elevated Metro Station near Okhla NSIC is under construction. This station is located at a T point made by Outer Ring Road & Captain Gaur Marg. In city, at many places the metro stations are made at a height in center of the road and it facilitates people to descend on either side of road, otherwise foot-over bridge is provided at many places, thereby helping people to avoid crossing road amidst traffic.
The Okhla NSIC Metro station is being made on one side of the road and at present there are no signs to indicate that a foot over bridge connected with metro station shall be made allowing direct access to people from other side of road. The T point at which station is being constructed is extremely busy intersection always under jam like condition, crossing road at this point by a pedestrian is very difficult and any additional load will create a total chaos. This station will be used by people going to Modi Mill, Okhla Industrial Area etc., thereby would definitely attract a huge crowd. Non availability of a connecting foot over bridge would definitely create chaos on the road.
However, there is already an existing foot over bridge (FOB) on this T point connecting all sides of road. The station is very near to this FOB, the point is, if station can be connected to this bridge a lot of pedestrians’ movement can be routed thru this and excessive load at road can be avoided. This would also save on cost front as construction of a full-fledged new bridge may not be immediately necessary.
In case no such thought is already in pipeline, request you to consider above
Please acknowledge. Thanks
